Growth/degrowth debate: GEJ seeks articles for 3rd edition

The Green European Journal features articles from both sides of the Atlantic this week, which spotlight two very different democratic developments. GEF Project Manager Marina Barbalata writes about worrying developments in her home country of Romania, where the recently installed centre-left Government has taken measures to undermine independent institutions and the separation of powers. As part of a wider showdown between the Prime Minister and President, these developments are a worrying step backwards for a country that was slowly emerging as a successful democracy.

Meanwhile, Pierre Ansay writes about a democratic renewal across the waters in Québéc, where students and professors are uniting to oppose the regional Government's planned increased in tuition fees. The situation has now escalated, with the Government introducing draconian anti-demonstration legislation, that has transformed the debate into one about the future of this French-speaking part of Canada. Considering the growing anti-austerity movement in Europe, what can we learn from the Québécois experience?
